Path to a license

1

Complete the 75-hour pre-license course

An approved NJ real estate school must provide 75 hours of instruction. Online and in-person options are available.

2

Get fingerprinted (IdentoGO)

NJ requires a criminal background check via IdentoGO. Schedule at identogo.com; results go directly to the Commission.

3

Prep for the exam

The 75-hour course teaches you the material, but it doesn't prepare you for the PSI exam format. This is where most candidates get stuck — and where targeted exam prep makes the difference.

LicensePass: This is where LicensePass comes in. Take the free diagnostic to find your weak spots, then follow a personalized study plan until your readiness score hits 85%.

4

Schedule your exam with PSI

Register at candidate.psiexams.com. Choose a testing center and date — most NJ centers have availability within a week.

LicensePass: LicensePass tells you when you're ready to schedule. When your readiness score is consistently above 85%, it's time to book your PSI appointment.

5

Pass the PSI exam

110 questions, 4 hours. You need approximately 70–75% to pass. Results are immediate on-screen.

6

Find a sponsoring broker

NJ requires every new salesperson to work under a licensed broker. Interview, compare commission structures, and choose a brokerage.

7

Apply for your license

Submit your application through the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs. Once approved, you're officially a licensed NJ real estate salesperson.
